Somehow I seem to have broken my animation motor (lol) but seriously no matter what browser i use Opera or IE. Animations on webpages don't animate! it seems to only be affecting .gif files Flash files still work. Anyone know whats up with this??

I guess your file association with gif is now different... Did you presently install any graphics program?

Try some associations, either by default or just try it all out... Anyway, associating it with ie dont seem to affect wether you use a different browser or not...

It shouldn't be the filename associations as they should only affect what application opens a file by default, although this is a very weird problem!

It might be permissions, but then surely the files wouldn't open at all if you didn't have permissions to open them.

Thinking about it, this may be due to some Windows component. Try doing http://windowsupdate.windows.com and if fiddling about with things doesn't work you could always reload the OS Sad

Also, does the browser show anything at all - like the first frame of the animation or nothing at all?

Have you tried this with any browser?
Go to: Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> scroll down to multimedia -> check "Play animations in web pages"

BTW, do this first in internet explorer... coz most of the options affects other browsers too...

Heh! It happened to me though, Im in WinXP, Actually it was cause by opening a single gif into one program that reads Images but doesnt show the complete GIF file (frames) so when I exited, it tried to eat up my animation engine, draining the fluid too... Anyways I regcleaned, and defaulted with the ashampoo suite... Its ok now...
