Sound suddenly quit
Saturday night, it was fine. Sunday morning - nothing. Any ideas? The drivers and everything all seem to be working fine so I'm kind of stuck for ideas. I thought I'd ask here before seeing a professional.

I would first check to see if it is plugged in properly and the sound is not muted. It sounds silly but that is the normal cause. If it was a hardware error more than likely you would get an error message.

This happens a lot to me with XP... first make sure you dont have headphones stuck in the ports
Second, make sure both speaker volume and computer volume are up.
Third, reset the computer
Fourth, reinstall drivers.
If none of these work, its beyond me

My audio works... but the volume has been a little loud the last week or so. I have the Windows XP volume around 10-20%, and my speakers are turned down too. Seems like there is another amp in the line, but I can't figure out what's going on.

It doesn't seem to be anything silly like volume and stuff like that. As I said, it just suddenly quit and I dont' remember changing any of my settings or anything. Or maybe I did... will have to double check. I will try reinstalling the drivers.
Could this just be some sort of XP bug?

Maybe. I don't remember changing anything either.
I did reinstall drivers, no help. But at least I've got sound.
Very odd.

Go into your Control Panel and go to Sounds/Multimedia. Make the icon appear in your taskbar and then open it up and see if anything is low where it shouldn't be. Countless times this has happened to me.

That was all fine - I did reinstall the driver and that seemed to have worked. I do have sound now! It is a little scratchy but it's here

If you have XP, there is a handy driver rollback feature, FYI. In your device manager and driver properties, you'll find it if you recently upgraded.

Funkyness!
I went to a 'study group' today.. I brought my tower and left it in the car all day (didn't need it). It was unplugged for about 10 hours. Now the sound levels are back to normal. All my volume sliders (in windows) are now at 50% (I prefer to adjust volume on my speakers) and everthing seems great.
Still have no clue what caused it in the first place.
