"Show Desktop"
On Windows Me and Windows 2000 there's an "application" icon called Show Desktop. I think it was in the system tray's quicklaunch area by default for WinMe and for Win2K I had to find it and drag it there. Either way, with one click it minimized ALL open windows to reveal the desktop.
So I've got my new Windows XP machine and I can't find Show Desktop anywhere and I want it. Anybody know anything about the missing "Show Desktop" function? Does anybody have any advice on how to quickly show the desktop (in one click) without having to manually minimize a dozen open windows one at a time?

Its still in the quick launch bar. Right click on your taskbar and select Toolbars > Quick Launch. If you don't want to leave the quick launcg open just drag it onto the start menu.
Alternatively push and hold the Winows key on your keyboard and hit M

or finally take one large hammer and belt the aforementioned monitor whilst shouting at the top of your voice "DAMN YOU BILL GATES! I WANT MY DESKTOP" until it relents and shows you the desktop...

Just right click on the Start button, go to properties, go to the Taskbar tab, check Show Quick Launch and uncheck Lock the Taskbar. This will give you you IE, Email, Show Desktop and others that you might want to add by dragging the shortcut to the taskbar.

Still think whacking the monitor would do the trick plus it's a great stress reliever!
