Problems Playing .AVI file
A friend of mine is digitally editing a movie for me, and sent me the result in a .AVI file, but when I try to play it, Windows Media Player tells me the codec won't work because my internet security is too low. I've tried changing internet security, but that still doesn't work.
Any suggestions?

Hmmm, have you tried adjusting your IE security level? (Internet Options > Security.) Have you applied all the patches to Windows Media Player -- I know there were some recent ones pertaining to it. Also, if you have RealPlayer or Quicktime, you could play it in that.

As I already said, yes I changed the security settings.
Yes I have all patches -- up to July 5th...
RealPlayer tells me I didn't have the codec... maybe RealOne will work...
I don't have quicktime, I'll try that later though.

RealOne still doesn't work, says there is no software to support it...
Quicktime wouldn't download... maybe later

Try going to:
http://jump.divx.com/jump.php?URL=http://download.com.com/3000-2194-10062728.html?part=divx&subj=dlpage&tag=button
This will take you to a page to download a bunch of divx codecs. Install these, it may solve your problem. Let me know if it works.
