Outlook not Outlook Express!

I have been using Outlook for my email rather than Outlook Express for some time now but when ever I click on an email link it automatically opens a blank email in OE. I have set the default to Outlook in Internet Tools Options but that doesn't seem to have worked.

Anyone got any ideas/solutions???

Hi julia,
Hmmm. I use Outlook aswell but I've never come across this problem... In the options section of OE does it say for both news and mail that OE is not the default reader? I haven't seen a similar option in Outlook, so maybe it just needs to be set in OE...
Other than that I can't be much help... Sorry...

P.S. Have you tried the outlook newsgroup?

Yep in OE it says that it's not the default handler for both mail & news. I haven't tried the newsgroup, maybe I'll try there then!

Also, check to see if in Outlook, it is the default for what you want.

I thought there was a similar option for Outlook, but there doesn't appear to be. Hmm, I'm really stumped. Maybe try upgrading to the latest IE version or reinstalling?

I have tried both and no luck. Oh well maybe I'm just stuck with it as annoying as it is!

Julia, can you uninstall OE via Control Panel Add/Remove? Just checked my system and OE isn't on it, so I must have got rid of it - I use Eudora.

I have been told not to uninstall OE as O shares some of its systems???

Shocked forgot about that! That's almost certainly true.

I tried changing my default email client from Outlook Express 6.0 to Outlook 2K from the IE>Tools>Internet Options>Programs pop up, and it seems to work fine for me. [I got IE 6.0]
I don't know if this is necessary, but keep Outlook and OE closed while making the changes in IE. Then, try clicking any email link on a site, and voila!
Have you configured Outlook to send and receive email yet?
If nothing works, try reinstalling Office/IE and start from scratch. It will definitely work in that case.
Another option is to go to the 'Tools' menu in Outlook Express and select 'Options'. There is a checkbox here called 'Make Outlook Express my default mail client' - if you uncheck this Outlook Express will no longer be invoked if you try to send mail from, say, a link on the web.
Cheers.

Done all of that and still opens OE when I click on an email link even though it's not ticked as default and outlook is! Guess I'll just have to live with it Sad

You need to change it in Internet Explorer. Go to Tools -> Internet Options, then to the Programs Tab. Simply select Outlook from the dropdown box, and you're done Smiling

Done that already. Have done everything but still defaults to Outlook when clicking on an email link. Although when going 'send a link' email does open outlook!! Odd

There's a "Make Outlook the default program for Email, Contacts and Calendar" under Tools -> Options -> Other. If that doesn't work, you may want to check out the MS support site (http://support.microsoft.com) to see if other people are having similar problems...
