IE6 weirdness...
Is this just me?
Lately I've found that my status bar in IE6 refuses to function on occasion. I'll get a very brief flash of text and then nothing. Sometimes refreshing the page will fix it, other times not. It does not seem to be confined to any particular sites so I know its not the designer messing with the status bar functionality. In fact, I've encountered it on some of my own sites.

Tautology.
I've never encountered this problem before. Changed any settings recently? Installed IE-messing stuff (Google toolbar)?
Time for Mozilla.

I do have the Google toolbar installed but have had it for some time. This status bar thing is quite recent. Perhaps it is time for a reinstall.
Renegade: I *have* Mozilla along with Opera and 2 flavours of Netscape - none of which have any relevance to my IE problem. Thanks for the input.

I don't have IE6 but seem to remember under the in/unstall option there is a fix errors option or something - maybe I dreamt it?

Nah, you didn't dream it, IE6 does have that function when you go to uninstall it.

I have also noticed every once and a while the status bar just never shows up. Even when you have it set to always come on. My computer does the same thing. It is weird.

I got caught up on my updates and installed the SP1 for IE6. For the time being, this seems to have remedied the problem.

Microsoft has a bug in IE6..and from what your describing,it's sounds like that bug...heres what you do..do a windows update again and if that doesn't work..un-install 6.0 and it will go back to 5.5 and then see if you still have the problem
