IE 6 Freezing Up
I have had this problem for a while now. On my PC at home, I will open IE6 access a web page and after a few clicks the browser will lock up.
I have tried upgrading to Firefox or IE7 but the machine does not like that either, after the restart I am left with IE6 the same.
Any ideas?

Firefox is your safest bet or Opera. What do you mean by "..after the restart I am left with IE6 the same"? You mean as a default browser? Just use Firefox, then setting it as default browser.
Tray also scanning your machine for some spywares and trojans...

You do need to get off IE6, preferrably to Opera or Firefox.
In what way did your machine not like you using IE7 or Firefox, what happened? As Demonhale mentioned, check your PC out with a virus/spyware checker, sounds like it might be borked. IE6 isn't so bad that it should lockup your whole machine.

IE6 has lot of bugs. even Microsoft cannot fix it 100%. that might be the reason why they left it go for IE7. I don't use IE6 because of the buggies.

ie6 is very very old. Probably you have old operation system too. I would advise to reinstall everything and get new versions.

Frequently in IE installations you need to reset it to its original "pristine" settings - particularly after 3rd party web sites and software have added toolbars and components to IE
In IE7 look under the Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset (button)
I've had to do this a couple of times.
I also added IE7Pro a free download that seems to speed up IE and give it more Firefox-like features (crash recovery, better tabs management etc.)
I am looking again at IE since I have decided to give Chrome a rest, where I was running my Yahoo Mail and Meebo IM aggregator. Some Drupal admin tools don't work in Chrome, for example on the FCKeditor admin, the global profile is not clickable...
I do most of my dev in Firefox3 and I run TWF, drupal.org, and LinkedIn in Opera...
I have the impression that running Chrome was affecting FFox and Thunderbird (making them freeze up), so let's see what happens when I don't use Chrome.
