Domain problem
A church member volunteered to do a website and maintain it.
It was churchname.org
The member did all the registering and paid for it out of his own pocket. He paid the hosting fees.
It was maintained for several months.
He never gave any info on it to the church administration.
Now he is gone, the website is gone and they cannot contact him.
Have they lost the use of churchname.org? Obviously, the church wants to retain the name.
Are there registration passwords that they can change?
What can they do?
I am making them a website and will walk them thru posting to a host, then let them have it.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Unless they have permission from the person that registered the domain name I don't believe there is anything that can be done. You might try contacting the registar where the name is registered through and see if they can offer some assistance. Considering the circumstances they may be able to change things. Do you know who it was registered through?

Thanks.
I doubt the registrar is known. If it's not and they don't contact the owner and obtain the info, I will advise them to re-register a variation of the name.

Just do a whois lookup to see the domain info. Domain Registration is a problem some times. Many times companies will register a domain name for you. The catch is that they actually own the domain so if you want to transfer it somewhere else then you have to kick up some bucks.
