Connecting to internet

I cant seem to accsess the internet through explorer6.0 or msn explorer. I use real one media browser, but when I download media and it requires my media player it will not allow me accsess to the internet so I must right click and choose "save target as" through my real one media player. So I guess it means that my window products access the internet differently than real one media player does(I think?).
My os is windows xp
Can anybody help me?
