CD-ROM Won't Play Music on XP!
I installed Windows XP on my home PC a month ago and since that time, the CD-ROM won't play music! It reads data OK, however.
I've gone through all the control panel set-ups, but still no luck. Any suggestions?
I don't have any specific audio hardware, but with Windows NT, I didn't need any. I just plugged the headphones into the CD-ROM.
Much thanks, in advance. I'll go nuts if I can't listen to music while I'm working.

Probably you don't have an audio cable connected to the CD-ROM inside the case. The audio cable connects from the back of your CD-ROM to a slot on your sound card. It looks like this:

You're probably right, but with Windows NT, on the same PC, I didn't need any audio cable. Why was that?

Well, if that is the case, then your sound is probably turned down. Can you play any sound at all or is it just the CD?
