I'm suffering a peculiar problem.

My PC has started to just switch itself off and reboot after random amounts of time. I've checked all my power connectons and switched off power management in Win 98 but its still happening. The only change I've made to the hardware is the addition of a Phillips CDRW.

Strangely enough, this has only been happening since then...

Are the two connected or have I got a more serious problem...

Thnx in advance!

It could be that you are oveloading your power supply. A good portion of 'off-the-shelf' computers only have 130-145W power supplies. So when you add another device it is pulling some power off. You can change the power supply on some. What kind of computer is it?

<150W? ack! I think mine is 300W.

Have you tried disconnecting the drive? Does it stop?

Ive got a 300W PSU, its less than 6 months old as my last one went bang in a big way...

I must admit I haven't tried disconnecting the drive but I think the problem may lie in the PSU...

Saying that my PC has been up for 10 hours now and now shutdow so who knows?
