Best Free and Recommended Web Browser?
So yeah I've been using FireFox for a LONG time now, ever since Mozilla released it really, but I want change...
Is there any other good free web browser any of you would recommend? Please, don't even bother trying to recommend Opera; I hate that browser.
I'd love something similar to FireFox - I feel the program uses too much RAM at times and often freezes. I would love something that is very similar to it, but at the same time stable and secure.
Recommendations and links welcome.

Well, um, Opera is the "best free and recommended browser" around here so I'm afraid you're out of luck The thing with Opera is that you can change everything, so if you don't like how it looks or something it's easy to customize.
You could try Flock, which is made from the Firefox source so I'm not sure if they've done anything with the RAM issue. The only other option I can think of is is some internet explorer add-ons that change the interface. However, I'm not sure if those will work with IE7. Most of the toolbars re really locked down in 7 so if you don't like it there's not much you can do.

Yeah, if you're looking for a firefox alternative, I would really recommend flock. It's like firefox except without the "issues" It is incredibly fast and works almost exactly like firefox.

Flock is pretty good, for me, loads in a quarter of the time it takes me to load firefox. Most of the extensions also work on it so, it's more or less a firefox clone but faster.

I'm thinkinf of giving Flock a try myself, just because my hand-me-down laptop doesn't have that much memory for Firefox if I'm trying to multitask, and Rhapsody player likes to skip because of the amounts of memory it takes up.
If it takes Firefox extensions, is it still faster, or will the extensions bog it down as much?

Depends on the extension that you decide to use, some extensions take up a lot of resources.

You should check out Opera. It's somewhat similar to FF but not as fast.

Not as fast?? That's interesting. I find it much faster It was claiming to be the "Fastest browser on earth" back around version 8 but they're not using that tagline anymore.
I was thinking the other day that comparing Opera and Firefox is like comparing apples and oranges. Both nutritious, tasty fruit, but very different You can compare and contrast the various flavours, conveniences etc. but it's really all a matter of personal preference.
In that analogy IE woudl be... I dunnno - a rotten banana? Hmmm... what food is not tasty or nutritious?

IE would be a tomato. Always going to be a debate whether it can be counted as a REAL browser or not

Well if FF or Opera doesn't suit you try Netscape 8. You can choose to have it render pages as Firefox or IE. To me it's faster than both Firefox and Opera. However..I can't live with my Firefox Web Developer extentions so it's Firefox that I use for most of my browsing.

Firefox has a huge memory leak. I suggest you to use Opera instead for almost the same features. IE7 fails at many things.

If by free you mean that it costs no money to download and use, then you might consider Opera or even Safari. If you mean free you mean software that does not restrict your freedoms, then I would recommend Konqueror.

I use:
1. Opera for forums (TWF, LinkedIn, drupal.org)
2. Chrome for Yahoo! Mail and Meebo (IM aggregator) and much non-CSS Drupal sites admin & testing (because it is fast)
3. Firefox for building pages, and exclusively for basic CSS work with plug-ins (but all my plug-ins make it slow)
4. Safari (for Windows) & IE to test stuff (I have IE7 and even installed IE6 on Vista with a Virtual PC)

Their web interface is nice, but I use Pidgin for my meebo accounts. Plus, there is a nice plugin that lets you chat with your site visitors if you use that page widget.

The Pidgin plugin rides piggyback on the meebo me widget
I have the meebo me widget on my site and on the Coder's Corner page
What is the advantage to using Pidgin instead of meebo in a browser?

Probably just personal preference. I already have Pidgin for all my other IM'ing, and I have it setup the way I like it, so being able to chat with my site visitors from the same program is a bonus.

There is a portable version od firefox, which eats less resources and doesn't require any install.
Look for it at Mozilla or some search engine.

Time pass ... if I were to recommend a web browser now, will be Google Chrome. It is so user-friendly that we can directly search the website by key-in related keyword from the URL bar.
Firefox has improved the service also. I am using it as well. You may re-consider to use back Firefox?

As per my view and experience,
1) - Google Chrome - Faster and light, consumes the least RAM
2) - Firefox - Fast and more Features(Say Addons)
3)- Opera, Safari, etc
Last) - Internet Explorer
But , IE9 is lil bit better.
