automate transfer to a mysql database

Hi all

I receive regularly delimited files and I want to transfer them into a MySQL database. Ideally speaking, I would like the transfer to execute itself on a regular basis.

I heard that etl tools were able to do such a thing, is that right ?

Ok, so I left StartLogic which really sucked and signed up with Bluehost for Linux shared hosting. They told me no problem serving php/mysql Drupal sites.

One thing I like about BH is it was the only shared hosting (I have, uh, 4 accounts with various hosts right now) allowing me SSH access to set up Subversion (but not supported, officially, totally DIY)

Recently I observed that there were 845 domains sharing my IP - BH response, predictably, was to offer to "sell me up" - FOO ON YOU!

Then, during an intensive tshoot session with Drupal mysite open in 3 browsers (the developer/maintainer for the mysite module doesn't even have IE, and it doesn't work in IE without hacks), I got "CPU Limit Exceeded" - and BH also offered to sell me up for almost $20/mo (no thanks, I can take it elsewhere...)

Dear Customer,

This is our policy with cpu usage, if you choose not to update, you are welcome to cancel the account and receive the refund available to you.

This error means that you have gone over the CPU limit with us. The site is always calculating how much CPU usage you are using in an average 60 second time frame. If you go above the limit, you will get this message no matter where on your site you go. Our system keeps taking averages and as soon as the average goes below the limit, your site automatically comes back. It usually only take less than 5 minutes to come back.

You can use half of the processing power of your server box over a running 60 second time period. So for example, on your 8x core server you can use 240 CPU seconds over 60 real seconds (Looking at it another way you can use 8-10 GHz at all times).

To see how much your usage was, there are logs in your account in the File Manager in the cPanel. Open to the Home folder and then go to /tmp/cpu_exceeded_logs/ then you can see your usage. Check what was your cause first, but usually this happens from MySQL queries and you can try to optimize your database in PHPMyAdmin in the cPanel, or empty out some of your tables if it has large amounts of old data.

Other than changing how your site works to be more efficient, you can have this limit increased. We can move your account to a High CPU server for an extra $19.95 per month. That would allow you to use 75% of the processor, which would be a limit of 360 CPU seconds per minute or like using a 12-15 GHz processor.

Hello all,

I was asked to update the css of an existing website, because the original builder hadn't heard of cross browser compatibility. I'm done with 99% of the job, but there's one thing that I just don't understand.

It's about this page:

When you open this page in anything else then IE6 everything works fine, but in IE6 a part of the sub navigation items of 'Practice Area' don't display all the time. Perform a refresh and you'll see they appear. Perform another refresh and you'll notice some are gone again. And this changes every time quite randomly.

Does anyone have an idea? Or does anyone have come across something similar?

About he navigation:
It's just a simple unordered list with nested lists for the sub navigation. The text you see are actually background images (the client really wants that font and I didn't want to use SIFR).

ok so here is the thing. i started doing web stuff with my dad about 3 months ago, we have been working on a few different pages and i am a lil concerned because he left the layouts and 'look and feel' to me.

i just wanted to know what all of you thought of some of these. now i didn't do them on my own and most of it is CSS/php/HTML.
i just don't know if they need something more, of if it looks kinds scetchy.

I like to raise a issue here at the board and seeking your view points. Now a days competition is harder, some less creative webmasters are seeking faster results and to do so few adopts strategies which they are not suppose to do so. here I am listing few and seeking your views and comments:

1. Copy the contents entirely or rewrite them without the consent of the owners.

2. Domain name squatting, they get some other TLD's or use hyphens etc. now a days plenty of TLD's exists and several domain name suggestion tools provides unlimited nos. domain variations.

3. Start selling similar services without understanding the niche, mostly outsourcing companies do so, they find a successful niche and add the same to the offerings.

4. Using other peoples RSS and create 1000's of posts using automated system. This is branded as term called "syndication" but if you see the posts their links have been placed on all main keywords.

In this case most of the time search engines fails to identify the original contents instantly. Even though the algorithm is stronger, some times innocents are receiving penalties.

I have a case where someone squatted a domain name without hyphens and sandboxed, but the damage has been done to original site too (the site with hyphens) and they lost their rankings.

I have many questions to ask, but I am seeking your views on these issues. I like to prepare a document where I will note all sorts of preventive measure a website should take before starting a new website that is visible and accessible to every one.

Restrict access to a web page

I have a web page that I would like to restrict access to.

I have some code that presents the user with a small window into which they must type a password, this is generated using javascript.

However the window opens up in the top left hand corner of the screen and not in the centre. I would like it to appear in the centre and would be gratefull for ay advice.

CODE: Function to cut text back to certain length

As in the example quote above, this code will accept a text string and a "cutoff" length (minimum of 5) to which it will trim the original string to fit the cutoff length, but except in two circumstances break it off at a space.

The two exceptions are if there is no space before the cutoff value or if the word that it cuts off at is so large, it causes the returned value to be less than half the desired length. (this usually only gets triggered on smaller cutoff values)

I wrote this function tonight after coming across the wordwrap function in php, and decided to rewrite some older code I had to handle this. That code basically used the explode() function to split the string up by spaces, and then loop through adding on pieces until it "fit". Then after being happy at making faster code using the wordwrap mehod, this much simpler method popped in my head!

I did some speed tests on my old and fairly optimized code against the method using the word wrap, and this one was about 3-4 times faster than my original, and still slightly faster than the wordwrap method.

Was looking at our Analytics and it shows that there has been loads of visits to directories that don't actually exist, such as variations of '/html/5.' Some are visited many times.. are these bots just trying to find vulnerabilities? Should i be worried?

I'm not sure if this is the place for me but it seems like everyone knows a lot about websites. Could I please have some advice.

I'm about to sign a contract for design & development to create and host a website for my business. I have a small carpet cleaning business and I'm trying to learn as much about websites as quickly as possible, but everything seems Chinese to me. I'd just like to know if I'm getting ripped off or if this is a fair deal.

I checked the sellers background, he and his business have had a handfull of small claims court dealing with clients. He said they were because of confusion in the contract. In one case he said he created a site for a business and then the business took his site somewhere else. He didn't specify the rest.

He says he can get my business to be seen on the first page when people are looking for a carpet cleaner in my/their area. There are so many details I'm not sure what is important.

He says he has the lowest price (which isn't always a better) and showed me prices from another host. I imagine there are a great deal of variables.

I know its not all about $$ but do these numbers seem normal.

For those of you that offer web hosting, do you use software that does automated billing w/ automatic account creation, etc? On my old hosting site, I had automatic account setup, but everything after that I had to manage myself, and I would find out that a client canceled a PayPal subscription months before I notice they aren't paying and cancel their account.

I have expanded my hosting resources and have the ability for a larger number of clients, so I am definitely going to have to get some kind of solution.

Drupal Userpoints for Ecommerce purchases?

So maybe someone here has done this, you never know

Simply put, members earn points (it is a tutoring site) for logging in, posting a comment etc. When they accrue enough points, they redeem for one of two shirts (tangible product).

The points are working with custom code in workflow-ng (because the events have to be unique each day to earn points)

Trying to use the points for ecommerce - with the userpoints_contrib module.

In Userpoints I enabled use points for ecommerce, on checkout I see use points for purchase, but the points are not deducted, purchases with insufficient points are processed -

in other words, it ain't happenin

using e-Commerce 5.x-3.x-dev (the recommended stable version) tried some 5.x-4.x versions, and 5.x-3.4 too

Userpoints_contrib 5.x-3.x-dev too

two possible alternatives:

If I make the purchase display a unique confirmation page (not accessible in other ways) I can write more custom wf-ng code to process the points (check if sufficient and reset to 0 on purchase)

I installed the COD payment module and set the confirm redirect page - but that isn't happenin' either

I can try Ubercart (I tried e-Commerce first, there are only 2 products and only a few sales/mo) which is also supposed to integrate with userpoints

Any suggestions?
