Link baiting is a new way that seos' use to describe viral link building or viral marketing. It is something on your website that makes people link to your site.
Very linkable, high-quality content is one of the best ways to target the engines naturally and build links through the social networks, blogs and news sites.

I can see the point here and ahve often thought about this matter on many occasions.
I need to do some more linking and get more content on my website and try to help improve its Page Rank.

This content was copied from Search Engine Optimising.com. Nice new tactic from the spammers - copy content from another site and stick your link on at the end. I removed the link but will keep the topic up for the purposes of discussion.
What are your link baiting strategies? What has worked or not worked for you? What have been your most successful pieces?

Hi,
Little confused with that phrase. Why do we need higher ranking, if not for building the traffic?
Have a great day

true. what i keep coming across online are lists.
top 10 of this... or 101 ways to do that... and they do appear to engender a certain amount of fascination in people, so they get linked to more often. guess it might have something to do with the more easily digestible nature of these articles, or something like that.
makes me want to do a list as well....
i think i'll have to eventually since i doubt i can submit poems to digg or reddit or other similar bigwig sites.
short poems on money * short poems on life * short poems on love

Hello,
Link baiting (or linkbaiting) is the latest buzz word in the SEO world and has come to be the preferred way to natural link building.
It means to create something that naturally attract backlinks for your web page by getting people to talk about it, discussing it on forums, blogging about i, posting it on del.icio.us/Furl/Digg/Shoutwire and linking to it from their sites. It also attracts a lot of visitors.

I got a bunch of backlinks recently by talking about something controversial. I didn't mean for it to get this much attention but I seem to have pushed some peoples' buttons.
We try to make our articles on A Padded Cell very thorough and informative (but not too thorough) and we do quite well on stumbleUpon in particular. My web fonts article did well on Reddit and Del.icio.us but hasn't attracted that many linkbacks (some nofollowed, unfortunately!). It did take a lot of work to develop that content.
