I know a lot of you are Canadian or European - I am PM but the programmer is based in Hyderabad, India and now producer is demanding documents - what docs do non-US contractors use? I am pretty sure he is incorporated with employees in India, or he could claim payment solo, whatever is easier...
Well this creep is insisting on 1099 from me too as a delaying tactic - but I have other long-term projects I probably will need to file it for anyway.
I am an individual unincorporated independent contractor.
It looks on the IRS site like I need form 1099-MISC I ordered 10 in the mail.
Be careful you can download PDFs but if you read the not-so-fine print it warns you that submitting non-scannable forms such as ones printed from the PDF can result in $50 fines.
